Notes on Some Remedies. XXIV. Blood Transfusion. Part III
4. Chronic anemia.?The object of transfusion is to restore the haemoglobin value and thereby raise the oxygen-carrying power of the blood. It may tide the patient over a crisis as in severe macrocytic anaemia when response to liver treatment is poor or in the case of a severely anaemic pregnant woman at term. Fresh blood is best, and to avoid any reaction, it is desirable to use a donor of the ...

متن کاملMRI thermometry based on encapsulated hyperpolarized xenon.
A new approach to MRI thermometry using encapsulated hyperpolarized xenon is demonstrated. The method is based on the temperature dependent chemical shift of hyperpolarized xenon in a cryptophane-A cage. This shift is linear with a slope of 0.29 ppm °C(-1) which is perceptibly higher than the shift of the proton resonance frequency of water (ca. 0.01 ppm °C(-1)) that is currently used for MRI t...
متن کاملVolumetric thermometry
Background/introduction Many applications of thermal therapy would benefit from temperature distribution measurements with high spatial and temporal resolution that cover a large 3D volume. Although MRI can acquire 3D temperature measurements, it is not possible to obtain fully sampled 3D MRI measurements that cover the insonified field of view with sufficient spatial and temporal resolution fo...
